Respect for the Harmonica

JP Allen

By JP Allen

What do you call a Harmonica player with a beeper? Answer: Optimistic!

What do you say to a Harmonica player in a nice suit? Answer: Will the defendant please rise!

How many Harmonica players does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: Five, one to change it and four to contemplate how Little Walter would have done it!

If you know of any other good harmonica jokes please share them with the harmonica world by posting them below….

I also wanted to share with you some of my most favorite respected harmonica players. In the category of Rock, I really respect this guy here. (The one who’s wearing all the harmonicas!)

Such a talented singer/songwriter and an amazing talented harmonica player, who loves to use the high end of the harp.

Next up, in the category of Blues Harmonica is Star Search Grand Prize winner Brandon Bailey. This young player is an up and coming tremendous blues harp player. Watch him WOW the crowd with his version of “Whammer Jammer”

I know it’s more of a Rock song but he’s a tremendous Blues Harp Player also.

And last on my very short list of “Most Respected Harmonica Players” is, from the genre of Bluegrass Harmonica, Mr. Tony Eyers.

He is one of the fastest and most accurate harmonica players I’ve heard in a long time.

So let’s get our harps out of their boxes and start practicing. If you haven’t already taken advantage of my harmonica lessons, this might be a good time for you to invest. I would love to be your Harmonica Teacher http://www.harmonica.com/go/bundle.html

So what do you think, do these Harmonica players get your respect?

Let me know who some of your most respected players are and your favorite harmonica jokes!

Happy Harmonica Playing,

JP, Thanks so much for your frequent posts and your time. I hope I am speaking for many others as for myself. Your posts and lessons keep me inspired. When I am reading or listening to your posts it seems automatic for me to pick up my harp and practice even though I may have just set it down.

Have a Gr8 week end I always look for more

JP, as a belgian citizan do I pay many respects to Toots Thielemans, a wellknown “ketje” as we say about someone who comes out of Brussels, capitole of our country that calls Belgium. He has played with the best musicians all over the world and is still playing the harmonica heavenly. Although many thanks for the inspiring lessons and posts on this site; greetz from Leo.

I am amazed at the lung power of these players and the speed at which they blow and draw. I used to have that power 60-70 years ago, but my guru then was Larry Adler – yes, I am that ancient! Still playing along with the classics though. Keep those videos coming in and keep training the youngsters. Super Bowl, Carnegie Hall and the Albert Hall here in UK beckon.

Loved the Big Sciota. I do a version of this but now realise I must try harder!, as this one is a lot faster and a few more twiddley extras.

While I’m here I would love some more Eastern European stuff on A harmonic minor. I have your Gypsy DVD and would love some more tunes. Thanks for being a great inspiration.
