I, too, have seen this video and watched it several times. I bought your course last October (2009) and have a lot of fun with it. I’m still not getting the blues sounds I want, but can get through most songs with tabs. Bending still troubles me, but I will get better. I’ve even got multiple (7) Special 20′s in different keys. You have a great course, I use it, I recommend it. Your follow-up communications are also greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work.

    Hi JP,

I just picked up the harp a little over a mo ago. I’m nearing 64 & love my harp ( Special 20-C). I did not know the harp was capable of making the sounds that Buddy Green made. Thank you for your free daily tips. I hope to get your DVD’s some day. I’ll never be a JP Allen or Buddy Green, but I will be a good harp player one day, thanks to you.

    Hi, JP …

Thanks for the Emails. Very informative and much appreciated.

I saw the Buddy Greene vidio a few months ago and it just blew me away. I just turned 72 this month and have been playing (fooling around) with the harp since I was 9 years old. I bought your course and am progressing nicely. Now … if I can only learn to over-blow.

Love the Buddy Greene video! I’ll always keep a special place for the late great Terry McMillan, though. Both are great!
I HAD two chromatics, one being a 64 Chromonica my Dad had owned since his young days in the Army Air Corps and the other a Super Chromonica I bought in my early 20′s. Both were stolen. What a loss! I have a Lee Oskar in A, but it’s not what I really wish I had. When I’m off this lay off (someday !), I’ll buy something nice…I hope. Your website has given me many tips to help me learn correctly. Thanks a lot. When I can, I’ll buy the course!

I had it since i was 12, but did not played a lot. anyway, my grandfather plaing all his life, and i tell you something – old generation, from my country, they played awesome as well, and they doesn’t know, how hard tehnique they are playing.

simply playing, that is all. like Buddy Greene said in his page, he played a lot from ear, not notes. Like my old generation :D

I was sent the video of Buddy Greene at Carngie and can’t get over the sounds and the mastery this gentlemen has with his harmonica. I must have watched this video so many times that I’ve lost count today. I’ve had a harmonica in my chest drawers for over 60 yrs now, I’m 68 and never learned to play it. Now, I’m inspired. He makes it look so easy. What a master of the instrument. Thanks for making it available. I certainly hope he continues to entertain for years to come and I get an opportunity to see him live. I’m encouraged to take it out and see if the thing still can produce a note or sound.

    Hi JP,

I got my first harmonica (Hohner Blues Harp MS) 3 years ago from a friend, and have only been struggling with it for a long time, never being able to get real instruction (I live on the Caribbean island of Curacao). I’ve seen the Buddy Greene video 2 years ago, and it was great inspiration, though kind of utopia to me.

I found out about your lessons 2 months ago, and they helped me improve my harmonica playing quite a bit, apart from getting me motivated again after almost quitting. Your full video package will be waiting for me in Germany in December, when I go back to live there. I’ll also get a Hohner Special 20, if only to see the difference to the Suzuki Hammond HA-20 I have right now; and I promise, I will play it hot!

Thank you for all the support and inspiration you provide,

    Andreas

I am enjoying your daily tips and will buy the complete kit someday when things are a bit better. In the meantime I will keep practising and hope to get much better before I get old!

I am enjoying the harp. I have tried several instruments over the years, Bugle, trumpet, steel guitar, electric guitar, and key board. I feel most comfortable with the harmonica… (no set up required :) !

I use to be one of the front row regulars watching Buddy “Lips” Greene play on Riverstreet in Savannah in the late 70′s. Roy “Fingers” Finch and Dr. Love on Bass. Sometimes there I was, and just a few others, watching … I would look around thinking: does anyone have a clue what we are seeing??! Those guys were amazing. Knew I was seeing someone special way back then … miss ya Buddy. Hahn in Florida

JP, thanks for putting Buddy Greene on again. He’s just an inspiration as are you. I’m wondering as a novice, how many years of hard dedication and practice does it take to get to a level like that of a Buddy Greene to be able to play that Overature as well as he does in the video?

Be honest now. Let’s say I dedicate one to two hours of practice a day, do you think in what life time I have remaining I’d be able to play that song?

Great video. I saw it several years ago when Bill Gather first ran it on one of his specials. Several of the best harmonica players I’ve ever seen were involved with gospel music and never received the recognition they deserved… Just humble people who enjoyed playing and entertaining with their special gifts.

    HI JP,
So glad I sent that video to you. Seems a lot of people have enjoyed watching it and remembering it from past viewing. It’s great to see such a talent and appreciate what one can do with a few notes on a little instrument. Now we need you to put a performance together for us and make it available like this video. I’m sure we’d all love to see you play a full song.

You never did answer my question previously about the length of time it would take a beginner to achieve a level of mastery that he / she could play at the Buddy Greene or JP Allen levels. Perhaps I missed it somewhere or should do a google on you but you look so young to achieved so much talent at your age. I assume it came easy for you. How long have you actually been playing harps etc. Do you have a background posted somewhere? I’d love to be able to one day play at a level that’s not a novice or beginner but become more professional at playing. Can you give me an idea of how much true dedication it has taken you or a Buddy Greene to achieve your levels of professionalism? Really curious. I played accordian for many years when I was a teenager, so that’s going back a few decades, but I practiced one to two hours a day, seven days a week to get good at it. Now with arthritis etc old age catching up, the fingers don’t move so good but the mouth still works well, The tongue is good and people say, I’m full of wind so I guess i have the essentials to play this HOHNER. As always, thanks for keeping us all up to date and providing the encouragement to continue playing. These clips you put on and the free lessons you provide are a great teaching tool and inspiration to all of us. Thaks so much..

A friend emailed the link to this several weeks ago, which I then posted on my Facebook page. Then, knowing that I had a harp sitting on my shelf waiting for me to get back to it, googled harmonica lessons and found your intro lessons. For the time I’ll have to be happy with your emailed lessons, which I have saved and replay. Looking forward to the day I can afford to buy the whole set.
