I want to start it bad but I want to finish lesson 9 and 10 over at H. A. (Jr. yr. tunes)

Then before I start my blues lessons go through the Gypsy CD.

Hey Harmonica Friends,

As I promised, I've launched the Gypsy video to the forum first so you all could get first dibs.

I've had a couple of Lee Oskar Harmonic Minors in Gm & Am for a few years. I love 'em. The soulful ethnic sound is wonderful & I find them really easy to play.

I am interested in the Gypsy deal online but on reading the reviews I find that not a lot of detail is given. What I am really interested in is a songbook of ethnic tunes.

Whilst almost anything can be played on the Harmonic Minor eg even the National Anthem which will sound strangely like a Serbian version, I'm really wanting to get my hands on a bundle of truly ethnic / gypsy/ Russian etc tunes tabbed and played. Exactly what is contained in the Gypsy Harmonica Course? Also at what level player is the course pitched?

Perhaps Ashish and/or someone other than in the US could help you on this one.

Good questions.

I had to plug it in again to see.

There are 23 actual different lessons.  Since I can't cut and paste from a DVD list, perhaps JP could provide one here.  However, each section is progressive and builds up from the one previous.

JP goes through various styles from learning rhythms; to tongue blocking versus lipping; playing octaves; tongue slapping - pull ons and pull offs; etc.

No bending is used; all single notes and chords played rythmically to the tunes he plays out.  So you don't really have to kill yourself to work your way through any of these lessons.

And too, once you learn the techniques he teaches, the skies the limit as to where you want to take it.

As far as finding actual songs, well, again hopefully Ashish or someone other than in the US can help in those regards.

Thing is also, while JP says your skills and tune playing will develop -- It most certainly does.  I use bending all the time; but I also play various songs simultaneously and in conjunction with my Golden Melody C.  But that's just me!

Personally, honestly: As I have JP's entire dvd boxed set, and I obtained the Lee Oskar Harmonica Minor in A just by watching his bonus track about it -- Well this new Gyspy DVD is a great addition overall.

However, if you're comfortable with your level of playing and have picked up all the techniques that JP covers elsewhere...Well then, this sole DVD full of lessons on just one harmonica may not exactly be your cup of tea.   Am just saying...

Hope this helps!

Smiles!

Thanks for your response SPD.

I'm sure that JPs course is excellent but I don't want to be going over old territory. My belief is if I buy a book or a course and I learn only one or two new things then it is often worth it.

I sent an email to JP requesting more info but as yet have not had a reply.

This is a sample of some of my 'limited' playing on the Harmonic Minor. Limited mainly due to lack of knowing tabs & hearing tunes:-

I do that all the time too!  My belief is if I'm guided to a course - be it book, cd, dvd - and it perks me up because there's something new I can learn and expand upon -- Well, I'm placing an order for it soon enough!

I'm so happy I gave Jon Gindick another look-see.  I've purchased several items of his; as well as had the pleasure of emailing with him too.

He's taught me a lot -- At the the right time and place in my journey!

Listening to your clip, I saw the ghost of Lawrence of Arabia leading a herd of camels through my yard; and I think I just ordered a full set of flying carpets from a site called Achmazazon.com - But don't quote me on that!

I was waiting for you to open up and really let the tune go -- Perhaps it's for the best though, as Allah only knows what I would've done then!

But yeah, if JP's Gypsy Harmonica clip stirs and grabs you - You will definitely learn to expand your techniques and hear various things you can play.

Oh, man, some guy named Alladin just showed up and wants to me to rub some lamp thingee....I don't think so...

Smiles!

Keep on Harpin'!

Wow david that really sounds nice Grin

Makes me want to pull out my minor harmonica and play it Grin

Only my gut feeling but I think you could really benefit from that gypsy lesson of JP's Grin

You already have great control with that minor harp just listening to you play up and down
the scales really sounds awesome Grin

You would light it up improvising with some of his lessons.

Just my gut.

Hey David!!!

SPD filled you in pretty well.

The video uses the harmonic minor harmonica to explore advanced techniques and to learn a bunch of really cool musical patterns and songs.

But it's definitely not full of a variety of songs so it sounds like it's not what you're looking for.

That being said, I'm pretty sure if you play through this video you're going to learn some fantastic advanced musical techniques that will be new and exciting for you.

If you want to purchase the digital copy of the video feel free to and if you're not happy with it I'll get you a full refund.

You can email me directly at jp@harmonica.com and I'll definitely take care of you.

Whatever you choose to do will be 100 percent fine with me.

Thanks again David for hanging around the forum and sharing all your amazing music and ideas with us.

You're buddy,

jp

Wow JP!

You're a real sweetie!   Kiss

I mean that in a very and most sincere way!   Smiley

For myself, I'm glad Spirit led me to your lessons and you when it did.

I'm just now crossing the threshold of being fully involved one whole year on my personal journey through this wide and vast Harmonic Universe of ours!

Obviously, nobody perhaps save Spirit can tell what the next new cycle holds for little ole me --

However, whenever people ask me how I got started -

After telling them about the 20+ years of frustration in learning this instrument -

Well, I've said it before, I'll say it again, and will continue saying it for as long as I can/am able --

The greatest thing I ever invested in was and still is: "The World's Best Selling & Most Favorite Home Harmonica Course Boxed DVD Set by JP Allen!"

Along with the regulars, the guests, and growing global membership/community here - I myself am humbly grateful for getting/having an opportunity to be a part of it all.

So God Bless Ya and The Ongoing Work You Do!   Smiley

Smiles!

Peace & SPD Out!!

Thanks JP great offer. Now all my old brain has to figure out is how do I download the course? I always have problems with downloads ie they download ok but I tend to get them lost in some obscure area within my computer & I have to get my (adult) children help to find them.

Will figure it out somehow. Thanks.
