Hey guys, we had 7 hours of downtime on Saturday Cry Most frustrating. The power died where our hosting is!

We're looking at getting upgrading our hosting so we have some redundancy so this never happens again  Grin

Cheers, C

I'm replying to Dave's comment regarding 3100 members and for the last week or so there has only been a couple of posts and when there is a post it's by the same dozen people! Hey to all you new members please add a post when you join the forum this will generate much disscussion from others besides us few. What's the sense joining if you don't join in the conversation?

online harmonica school ala Dave Barry,

Dave Barry is a humor writer unless there is another one. His brother, Sam, is an accomplished Harmonica player.

I sit corrected, Charles! Embarrassed

It's actually Dave Barrett and His Masterclass Harmonica course:

http://www.harmonicamasterclass.com/

Inre: Dave Barry

In my humble opinion, a "humorless" writer is more like it!

Although he received a Pulitzer (which I think was a fix) and had a slightly successful sitcom based on his life etc. (while even with Harry Anderson was still ho-hum) --

He's never ever written anything that I'd consider 'funny!'  Undecided

Sure, he has plenty of books and columns and whatnot.  But nothing of real importance or notability.  His dry, witless supposed humor is definitely all wet!  Tongue

He is/was no Mike Royko, another Pulitzer winner (and deservedly so on this one!)

Who himself was prolific in his writing; and in knowing how to use satire to affect political changes in his Chicago homeland always reminded me of being a Voltaire of his day and time --

Well, nevertheless, thanks again for your sharp eyes in noticing the Barry v. Barrett error.  Much appreciated!  Smiley

Inre: Sam Barry

Pretty cool.  Nice to know.  (Doesn't mean I like his brother any more though!  Mwuahahaha!)

Smiles!

Sam Barry wrote a book called How To Play the Harmonica and Other Life Lessons. I thought it was a fun read but if you don't like Dave Barry's humor you probably wouldn't like Sam's either as it is very similar.

Hey Street Player Dude (from here on known as SPD...too long to write that name bro) Anywho...just read the article...your a lucky man dude..i know what it's like driving them trucks, i do it for a living too (unemployed at the moment, like half the country here...anyway i digress.) Try haulin moving shanks of beef, can be scary. Like you i often wonder if its worth all the hassle, but to be honest i love the freedom of been on the road with no boss looking over your shoulder so to speak. Im glad to hear your on the mend, and yes im sure a crash like that will make you look at your life again, and put things in perspective. Maybe one day you'll decide to get behind the wheel again, until then...keep on harpin...if ya cant keep on truckin. As regards the forum...i would have no problem paying a small fee as suggested for certain privledges.

                                           Paudge.   New to harpin.

Thanks for the kind words, man!

While old enough to have done it, never did any of that 'swinging beef' --

It was more treacherous than hauling non-baffled milk containers; and since it caused more accidents than any other -- The US changed it all over when they began direct processing plants to haul the meat.  Surprised to hear other countries still do it the old-fashioned way.

Never hauled livestock either.  Though the old cattle haulers would say it was easy as you just got to sit back and watch while your load walks on then walks off the trailer!  Go figure!  Hehehehe!

With more than 25-30 years on the road, and too many memories, both good, bad and indifferent -- Still, I don't think you can pay me enough to get up behind the wheel again.

Too, if truckers are out of work because of the economy, then the world is already in the hand basket on its way to hell!

On the upside of all this:

Along with our fine global forum here, you may also want to check out our "unofficial brother" site here:

http://www.harmonicaclub.com

It has a chat room and other cool features.  {Speaking of the chat room, I gave up the chat room and drinking for Lent.  It's a long season this year.  So I can't wait until Easter Sunday -- I may or may not get back into the chat room, but I sure as hell can use a drink about now!!  Mwuahahahaha!!  Anywho...}

Our good friend Seamus there is from the Emerald Isle in your neck of the woods.

Sign up, drop him a line, and maybe you Erin Go Braughs may be lucky enough to hook up!

Keep us posted!

Smiles!

Joey!
Good to know you may be coming back to visit us at the Harmonica Club Chat Room, you have been gone too long.
Since Lent started on the 9th or 10th of March (seems it depends on what kinda Catholic you are) and honestly you have been missing from the CR since before either date I asked Davey if he could perhaps clarify.
He was able to inform me that perhaps it had nothing to do with "Lent" and that he thought you had "lent" something to someone and weren't going to come back to the CR until your property is returned.
Oh well, either way, "Don't Stay Thirsty My Friend" Mwuahahahaha

Yeah, buddy!

I'll be honest here and say I found myself getting caught hanging out online more and more.  Not that there's anything wrong with that!  Hehehehe!

About the last time I was in the CR, be it the weather or whatever, 'twas really messing up these ol bones of mine.  Something called sciatica was really tearing me apart.  I could hardly move; and to sit at the computer was most difficult, if not impossible.

Oh, and the beer, wine, bourbon, scotch wasn't helping out anymore either.

Somewhere along the way, Mardis Gras, the day before Ash Wednesday came up.  As over the years, during this time, I attempt to give something up as a spiritual/physical sacrifice.  So the alcohol, not the nicotine, gets the hit!

And well, I backed off the CR, first as a joke to myself.  But gawd, man -- I'll be honest here too and say the outpouring of friendship in emails and such has been quite overwhelming!  And I mean all that in a great way!

Sure, I can probably jump back into the CR anytime...Surprisingly, that sciatica, although still bothersome, isn't as crippling as it was a few weeks ago...And I still enjoy Seamus' place to be sure!  I love you guys (and gals)!

But also, had I known Lent was going to be so damn long this year - I'd've probably passed over on it altogether this go round!  Mwuahahahaha!

Yet too, as I've already come this far, hell, I might as well go all the way to Easter Sunday now then!

Still have a case of them PBRs we 'share' sitting in the fridge! Wink

Not to mention big Wild Irish Rose, and my other pal Jim Beam waiting for me to crack em open!

Just am hoping my return ain't going to be anti-climatic, as in, "Hey, Joseph! Glad to see you're back!  Now get the frig off the camera and let somebody else talk and play, dammit!"   Tongue

Mwuahahaha!

It's all good, Rome, it's all good!  Grin

Smiles!

Keep On Harpin'!

I'm kinda in the same boat! Mine is medical not spiritual. I had to back waaaaay down since the heart stents back in December. Warning SPD, I find I get a bad headache on about 1/4  what I used to drink! Ease your way back on the horse.
Congrats on the Willpower to stick it out!

Well PB --

If you can handle it, a glass or two of wine or beer every so often shouldn't be enough to kill ya!  Spirits do have their medicinal purposes, eh?!  Wink

Thing is, most nights I only have one or two, and the rest just goes flat...Except when, well, we've been known to party like adults and good friends in the CR too! Hehehehe!

Thing is also, I've been drinking lots of bottled water as of late.  Just recently, I've been asking Brother Jesus to turn one or two of the bottles into wine...But even he says to wait til Easter Sunday!  Go figure!   Tongue

Mwuahahahaha!!!

Rock on, yo!

I deal with the same thing I take flexoril to take the edge off. Back before my insurance changed I got a nerve block shot in my back once every 9 months. The morning after one of those I feel like 25 again! It lasts about 7-8 months before it wears off.
It hurts a little but not near what you are putting up with already. Ask your doc. it's worth doin.

I was taking all those left over pain killers back from ye olde accident.

Thing is, one doc gave me a couple boxes of morphine patches to wear for 3 days at a time.

Thing is, for most of my life, I've taken vitamins, herbs and minerals to stay healthy.

I finally got around to reading the warning pamphlets that came with the patches; shit is highly addictive!  I decided to kick it.  So with nothing more than coffee and smokes, I lay on my couch for three days and nights until the stuff cleared my system.  Rough stuff, man!

Now when my back was hurting, I did use one patch; and really worked on getting out the kinks.  I'm better than before anyway.

Thank God, Brother Jesus answers some of my prayers; at least the ones he finds important!  Grin

I only drink an occasional beer, don't care for it that much. I make home made wine that I drink now and then. But I have a real  thirst for CR or C.C.(Canadian Club). Doc said I  can tie one on now and then just not very often.

I think that's when I started feelin da Blues! Wink
