From JP:
The Hohner Big River Harp is an awesome instrument for pros, but if you're a beginner who is just learning the harmonica, here are two other recommendations:
1. Higher Dollar (professional): My #1 pick is the Hohner Special 20.
2. Economy: If your a beginner who would rather get a more economical harmonica to "test the waters" (i.e. make sure you serious about sticking with harmonica before you invest), the Hohner Blues Band will get you off to a great start.
Don't get me wrong; the Hohner Big River Harp is a very good instrument for professional harmonica players. But if you’re a beginner, you might find it challenging to learn to bend on this instrument (bending is that soulful wailing sound that has made harmonica famous).
From the Manufacturer:
Pearwood body. Solid brass plates. Traditional Richter-tuned diatonic.
The one, the only, the original -- the harp that was there when harmonica blues was born. Made famous when played by every serious harmonica player from Little Walter to John Lennon, Paul Butterfield to Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and many, many more. The result of over 100 years of tradition and German craftsmanship, it is still the number one choice of top professionals and the most recognizable model all over the world, known for its full tone and wood comb. Play the Marine Band and be a part of history.
Diatonic Single Reed Models
These models include some of the most popular harmonicas and are used in Blues, Folk, Country, and Rock. All feature reeds that are tuned to produce the natural notes of the scale without any additional sharps and flats. Most are 10-hole instruments with the 4 middle holes comprising a complete 8-note octave, and the holes an either side extending the scale and permitting chord playing. These models are capable of producing the expressive effects of bending and overblowing.

Returns Note: Due to U.S.A. Health Code Regulations I am not permitted to accept returns on harmonicas. If your harmonica is faulty, I will give you a direct contact to the manufacturer and make sure they take care of you. (As a player, I have not received a single faulty harmonica in 20 years... so it's extremely unlikely you will either!)
