Review Summary:

The Hohner Toots Mellow Tone is part of the collection dedicated to Jean “Toots” Thielemans, which also includes the Toots Hard Bopper. Unlike the Hard Bopper, the Mellow Tone is not meant for blasting out loud notes. Instead, as the name suggests, it has a much more mellow tone. If features fantastic reed plates and tuning that is designed to help you play classical pieces or ballads with ease. Like the Hard Bopper, the Mellow Tone is constructed with special reed plates and reed profiles to keep it sounding beautiful and mellow, even after many concerts and performances.

Pros

  • Fantastic mellow tone
  • Excellent long lasting reeds and sturdy reed plates

Cons

  • Good for classical pieces and ballads, but not for blasting notes or playing the blues
